The Parent Interviews and Direct Assessments of Children Survey (PIDACS)

The PIDACS examines the relationship between children’s development and various family and community factors that could influence that development.  The PIDACS is based on the National Longitudinal Survey of children and Youth (NLSCY)for five years olds and collections information about a sample of 300-500 children in a community.
An independent contractor will be conducting this portion of the Research in conjuction with the UEY Community Coordinator.

There are two parts to this assessment:

  • A one hour interview with a parent or an individual most knowledgeable about the child
  • Three Direct assessment activities, approximately 10 minutes in length each, with an assessor and child at school. The assessments are based on  activities which look at:
    • Children’s receptive or hearing vocabulary
    • Copying and printing skills related to early literacy
    • Number knowledge
