Local Socioeconomic Characteristics

Knowledge about the economic, social and cultural conditions in which young children grow up is essential to understanding how the early years are shaped.  This data is collected in two ways:

  • Census Canada Information
  • Social Index:  a social index is created using Census Canada data to indicate the number of risk factors in a community which may be related to children’s development.  This may include data on Unemployment rates, average income of households, Education Levels, Family status, Residents’ mobility, Language, Home ownership, Immigrant Population, Reliance on government transfers.
